Celebrating 50 Years

Vilde is 21 years old, she is studying Norwegian folk music at the university of South Eastern Norway, Campus Rauland. This semester she is finishing her bachelor’s degree. She plays the hardanger fiddle and dances both halling and couple dances from many areas of Norway. The last couple of years, Vilde has done a lot of teaching both in Norway and the US, both to kids and adults. Vilde is also very fond of organizing and participating in performances. The last couple of big events was a performance based on an old ballad from Telemark, where Vilde was the director, and a concert at the Osa festival in Voss.

Marta grew up in Vermont, USA and has been playing many styles of folk music since she was very young, including Irish, Scottish, Swedish, Norwegian, and French Canadian fiddle music. Although she has studied classical violin most consistently throughout her life, she has attended Scandinavian music and dance camps on the East coast with her family since she was a baby. After becoming more independently interested in Scandinavian music and dance as a young adult, she moved to Norway to study hardingfele in fall 2021. She studied at Universitet I Sorøst-Norge from 2021-2022 in Rauland in Telemark, Norway. She now lives and studies in Bergen, Norway.

My name is Malin Røysland Skårberg. I’m 20 years old and come from Tinn in Telemark. I’ve been practicing traditional Norwegian folk singing (kveding) since I was 5 years old, and Norwegian folk dance since 2015. I’m currently studying Norwegian folk music at the University of South-Eastern Norway, campus Rauland.

I have taught some classes in both singing and dancing. I’ve also been performing at different performances in Norway.
